Brno, October 2026 – 4dot Mechatronic Systems is launching a new machining process monitoring system designed also for applications in which PROMETEC/PROMOS 3+ was previously used. For companies familiar with this system or looking for a new solution for similar monitoring applications, 4dot offers a technological replacement based on its own hardware, sensor and software platform.
This is not a direct 1:1 replacement. The 4dot system is a new solution designed for similar types of process monitoring applications, while extending them with modern sensing technology, signal processing, remote management and machine condition monitoring.
The system monitors the machining process directly during production and can react to process changes in less than 1 ms. Detection of monitored conditions itself is completed within 200 µs. Depending on the specific application, the system uses vibration sensors, strain sensors, or a combination of both.
4dot can monitor, for example, tool-workpiece contact, tool wear, tool damage or breakage, and collision events. The same hardware and sensor platform can be used not only for process monitoring but also for machine condition monitoring and technical diagnostics.
For users, this primarily means the ability to detect emerging problems while the process is still running and reduce the risk of collisions, failures, and subsequent damage to the tool, spindle or machine itself. The monitoring system can also help reduce scrap, make better use of the actual service life of cutting tools, and improve production stability. Another important benefit is the automation of routine process supervision, creating a foundation for a higher level of machine autonomy.
The solution also provides remote access for configuration, system management and technical support. System settings and part of the technical support can therefore be handled remotely, simplifying long-term operation and reducing the need for on-site service interventions.
The technology has been validated both under laboratory conditions and in real industrial operation. Development combined laboratory testing with gradual validation of system functions directly on production machines at industrial partners.
The technical solution is protected, among others, by patents CZ 308664 “Diagnostic System for Machine Tools” and CZ 308886 “Strain Sensor and Strain Measurement Assembly Comprising the Sensor”. Patent protection is complemented by 4dot’s proprietary know-how in signal processing and industrial implementation.
The monitoring unit was developed within project FW07010019 “Research and Development of Shared Services for Machine Tool Monitoring Using 5G Networks”, supported by the TREND Programme of the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, in cooperation with Brno University of Technology and industrial partners.
The 4dot machining process monitoring system will be presented at the International Industrial Fair (MSV) Brno 2026, Pavilion F, Stand 227.
